Mandolin

Celtic Mandolins are A-style with a teardrop shape and round or oval sound hole. They are characterized with a warmer, woodier tone and greater sustain and resonance particularly in the lower register. This "singing" quality blends well with other instruments, making it ideal for Celtic and folk music.

Bluegrass Mandolins are F-style with F-holes like a violin. They produce a brighter, more cutting sound with a stronger attack and faster decay. The quick decay and sharper attack contribute to the characteristic "chop" sound essential for bluegrass rhythm. While these are traditional associations, you can certainly play any style of music on either mandolin.

Other elements such as wood selection, quality of construction and setup will affect the volume, tone, beauty, strength, playability, and sustain. I rely on traditional building methods, hand tools, and a dedication to both craftsmanship and artistry to achieve that balance. Whenever possible, I choose locally sourced tonewoods, giving each guitar its own story and unique voice. My goal is to continually refine my work, always striving to create instruments of the highest caliber.
